You need to have at least two NTFS partitions in your system. Now move the second partition (D in my case) to left or right and expand or shrink it using GParted or any other tool. In my case, I moved it to the left and expanded it. Start WSL after moving the partition and it should mount the new D drive correctly.

The /mnt/c directory is the mount point. Cleaning these up would be problematic because let's say you changed your DrvFs drives to mount at /win/* and started putting files under /mnt/c which is now just a real directory.

For me, this phenomenon often occurs when I turn the laptop into sleep mode or hibernation and then bring it up again. I need to manually mount -t drvfs C:\ /mnt/c to remount, or shutdown and restart wsl completely to fix it.

I have a NTFS volume I mounted as a additional drive after launching WSL2, but it doesn't show up in /mnt/, even after restarting WSL2. No LSB modules are available. Doing a full shutdown with wsl --shutdown and relaunching Ubuntu fixed it. The exact same thing is happening to me.
